Peking University, Beijing, Nov 16th , 2004 : Alumni Zhu Cheng became the first
Chinese student who won the Harvard president in graduate school of education.
The 24-year-old doctoral candidate scored 62.7% pro-votes, beyond other three
American equals after half-month fierce competition thanks to her welcome election
programs and good affinity.
1% Chinese students plus more than 89% American students constitute Harvard
graduate school of education with 1200 master and doctoral candidates. Election
candidates were required to publicize their future programs, address the public,
deliver propaganda leaflets and justify themselves facing students'
question-challenging before the whole vote by ballot. Over 20 positions are designed
to receive president, vice-president, six department-in-chiefs and subordinates with
many candidates.
After the Peking college years, as the highest scholarship awardees of Harvard, she
was the only Chinese graduate in that college in 2001 and became the youngest
master of education with all-A record among 351 graduating students in 2002. At the
same year, she was employed as full-time teacher by the combination school and
then acquired the certificate of excellent teacher for his teaching. Her wonderful
academic performance again secured the highest scholarship of that school and
furthered his doctoral degree.
Besides the fine record in the study, she is active in social participation with
outstanding capability. In Prime Minster Wen's Harvard speech last year, she got the
only priority to ask a question as the Chinese representative.
