the 8th Paralympic Games, competing in track and field, swimming, table tennis and
shooting. Zhao Jihong, the gold medalist in the 7th Paralympics, again won 2 golds in a row
in the 100-meter and 400-meter race, defeating top athletes from the United States, the
former Soviet Union, and Poland. In this Paralympics, Chinese athletes won a total of 44
medals, including 17 golds, 17 silvers and 10 bronzes, broke 9 world records for 11 times
and ranked 14th for the number of gold medals.

Besides, in the 11th Paralympic Games, Zhu Hongyan, a blind girl from Henan Province,
while suffering lumbar muscle strain, omarthritis and arthritis in training, still won 5
swimming gold medals.
3. No.1: 12th Paralympic Games
In September 2004, the 12th Paralympic Games were held in Athens, Greece. China had
sent the biggest delegation ever of 287 people, among whom were 200 athletes, which was
2.3 more than the athletes sent in 2000, which was 122. Competing in 11 sports, 284
events, Chinese athletes had won 63 golds, 46 silvers and 32 bronzes, 141 medals in all.
This was the first time China ranked first for the number of gold medals. China also won the
most medals.
In the last 6 Paralympic Games, Chinese athletes displayed extraordinary perseverance
and determination, going beyond their physical limits to not only compete at the best level,
but also to say "I can". In September, in the beautiful fall of Beijing, they are expected again
to honor the nation by their performances and inspire us with the spirit of Olympics.
