Excellent Post-doctoral Researchers

Beijing, Peking University, 27th Dec, 2004: In order to attract talents, encourage
originality and creativity in post-doctoral research, in 23rd Dec, a rally was held at
PKU‘s Yinjie Exchange Center to recommend those outstanding post-doctoral
researchers. In all, 31 post-doctoral researchers who stay at PKU during 1985 and
2003 were awarded. The rally was hosted by Zhou Yueming, Minister of personnel.
Xu Zhihong, president of PKU made a speech in behalf of the university. Several
important leaders of PKU, scholars and governmental officials attended the rally.
The president congratulated those who were awarded the title of ―Excellent
post-doctoral researcher of PKU‖ and he also laid down detailed requirements to
post-doctoral researchers of our university and made it clear that they should help to
realize PKU‘s dream of becoming a first class university in the world. Our university
will steadily increase the number of post-doctoral researcher, back basic researches,
enhancing the internationalization of post-doctoral researches and send
post-doctoral talents to appropriate posts.
As early as 1985, promoted by Professor Li zhendao and under the care of
government, Peking University became one of the first that set up centers for
post-doctoral studies. Now, we have 35 centers and have recruited 1812
post-doctoral researchers. Under the care and guidance of professors of all
departments and schools, those researchers have achieved a lot. According to
survey, every researcher takes two to three research tasks averagely. And the
number of their dissertations ranks very high in SCI. 2005 will be the twentieth
anniversary of the establishment of China‘s post-doctoral study system. The
post-doctoral study will face new challenge and environment. PKU will try to play an
active role in the promotion of the post-doctoral study.
