Peking University, Beijing, Dec. 7th, 2004: The first graduate ceremony of PKU
Branch School of Stanford University was held in Ying Jie Communication Center on
December 3rd. Director Ming Weifang, president Xu Zhihong, Dr Feruson from
Stanford, 16 students of Stanford University and related students and teachers of
Peking University attended this ceremony. Li Yansong, minister of Department of
International Cooperation, presided over this ceremony.
Director Ming gave an ardent speech to the audience. President Xu awarded the
Stanford students graduate certifications and schoolfellow cards with his own hands
and took photos together with them. The leader of Stanford team, representative of
PKU teachers, representative of Stanford students and representative of PKU
students gave speeches by turns, making the celebration ceremonious and cheerful.
The students of Stanford were very excited when they received their graduation
certifications and schoolfellow cards from president Xu. They were among the first to
join in this project, serving as the ligament of the friendship of PKU and Stanford
University. At the same time, they were also historical eyewitnesses of the
establishment of the project of PKU Branch School of Stanford University.
Director Ming pointed out in his address that this autumn was the first session of the
project of PKU Branch School of Stanford University. Both sides cooperated happily
and the project ran smoothly. He emphasized that China is the biggest developing
country in the world, while America is the biggest developed country. The close
cooperation of the best universities from both countries will not only benefit the
cooperation and communication of education, research and management of two
universities but also help to improve the understanding and strengthen the friendship
of both countries. He said that Peking University has top-ranking teachers and
students, and we will try our best to provide more and better opportunities to fulfill
students‘ needs of study and living. He also hoped that after the completion of the
Foreign Students‘ Apartment in Zhong Guan Yuan, the living conditions of the
students would be greatly improved. At the same time, director Ming said that the
Stanford students are welcome at any time back to PKU.
