quarter of the Stanford Program at
PKU

Peking University, Beijing, Dec.19th, 2006: With the ending of the 5th quarter of the
Stanford Program at PKU, a banquet was held on 13th, December to celebrate the
successful completion of the Program in the No.7 Building of Shao Yuan.
Professor Min Weifang, Director of PKU‘s Administration Commission attended the
banquet and delivered a speech. Xia Hongwei, Executive Deputy Director of the
Office of International Relations of PKU, Zhang Xiuhuan, Vice Dean of the
International College for Chinese Language Studies, Pei Rusheng, Director of the
Office of Stanford at Peking University, and more than 40 students and faculty
members from Stanford and PKU gathered together to celebrate the event.
The Program, which has been held for 5 successive quarters, has proved to be a
successful one. To make the Program a long-term mechanism to be held regularly in
the future, PKU and Stanford University renewed their cooperation agreement
recently. The next quarter is to be held in April next year at PKU.
By participating into the program, students from PKU and Stanford, who spent a
whole semester studying together, harvested both knowledge and friendship. Just as
one student put it, ―we have all experienced the hospitality of – not just our friends at
PKU, not just our friends in Beijing – but all of our friends, from all over China. The
time we have spent in China has redefined our notion of how to treat guests. There is
a lesson for us here.‖
