PKU and Waseda University to
Cooperate in Double Major Education

Peking University, Beijing, Dec. 6th, 2005: Peking University and Waseda University
of Japan will start the joint program of undergraduate double major education this
year.
According to the program, a number of junior students selected from PKU will study
for one year in Waseda University and vise versa. They can obtain two diplomats
from both universities when they graduate.
This program is now only carried out in School of International Studies. It will
gradually be extended to other schools and departments in both universities.
This joint program of undergraduate double major education is a brand-new way of
cooperation, which also broadens the two universities‘ field of cooperation. PKU and
Waseda University started graduate classes for students of School of International
Studies as early as 1994, and from 2001, doctoral classes also came into existence.
This program was one of the important issues of ―PKU-Waseda University Day‖
sponsored by PKU. It is the first Asian University Day after a number of university
days such as Moscow University Day and Cambridge University Day since 2001.
The ceremony of ―PKU-Waseda University Day‖ was held on the morning of Nov.6th
on campus. PKU President Xu Zhihong and Waseda University President Katsuhiko
Shirai delivered speeches on the great importance of the communication and
cooperation of the two universities in academic and cultural studies.
