Master's Tea: PKU-Yale Joint

Peking University, Mar. 17, 2008: At 7 pm on Mar. 3rd, Master's Tea, the PKU-Yale
joint undergraduate program, was held in 2nd conference room of the Overseas
Exchange Center. The lecturer, Victor Yuan, Chairman of Horizon Research
Consultancy Group, delivered a speech, "The Developing Sino-US Relations," to the
students of PKU and Yale.
Master's Tea is a tradition of Yale University. Eminent people are invited to the
common room to chat with students, sharing their life experiences.
The lecture was hosted by Prof. Deborah Strong Davis from the Department of
Sociology of Yale University. Prof. Davis first introduced Mr. Yuan and emphasized
the preciousness of the chance of communication.
Mr. Yuan stated that the choice of the theme of the lecture was a result from the fact
that it is helpful to conduct a research of comparison between China and the U.S.
under the circumstances of globalization. And the research of comparison of other
countries is a goal of Horizon Group. Using statistics from polls done by Horizon
Group of the U.S., Mr. Yuan gave a thorough analysis of the feelings Americans
have toward China and Chinese have towards the States, including aspects of
people, culture and policies.
With the charisma of a host, Mr. Yuan kept the lecture going in an active and relaxing
way, which was made more interesting by his story-telling of experiences in different
countries. At the end of his speech, he wished every student to be a globalized
person.
After his speech, Mr. Yuan answered questions from the students with great
patience. The questions varied from starting a business, communication,
competitions between peers to travel around the world. And the answers were no
less inspirational than "I'm like a fruit tree with 300 fruits but one root".
When the meeting was over, the applause was almost impossible to stop. Many
students came to Mr. Yuan again to continue the discussion and Mr. Yuan gave his
name cards to them for further discussion. Also, every student received a book
written by Mr. Yuan.
