Commendation Ceremony of PKU 3rd
International Cultural Festival Held

Peking University, Beijing, December 7, 2006: The commendation ceremony of the
3rd PKU International Cultural Festival (ICF) was held on December 4th. Mr. Lin
Jianhua, PKU Executive Vice President; Mr. Li Yansong, assistant to President and
Minister of Office of International Relations (OIR); Zhao Weimin, Minister of Publicity
Department and OIR Director Wang Yong attended the ceremony. The grand
ceremony was hosted by OIR Executive Deputy Director Xia Weihong.
Nearly 100 people who worked as volunteers for the 3rd ICF attended this ceremony.
Most of them are foreign students. Mr. Lin Jianhua said that ICF had become a brand
activity making campus life meaningful. It not only provides a big platform for
students from all over the world to show their culture and thoughts, but also enhance
communication and cooperation among students. Meanwhile, it helps students to
enhance global awareness and international perspective, cultivate the spirit of
patriotism and the citizens of the world. ―The International Cultural Festival is
becoming an open and progressive stage to display the achievement and progress
of Peking University and has become a common pride of everyone,‖ Lin said.
Mr. Li Yansong announced the honor list, saying that interesting activities in the ICF
shows both the talent of PKU students and the efforts made by us to create an
international and harmonious campus. We cannot achieve success without
contributions from and active participation by both Chinese and foreign students.
―We reward them today to express our thanks and we encourage more and more
people to devote themselves to international communication cause with great
passion in the future.‖
Afterwards, Mo Anjie, a foreign student from Chinese Department and the charge of
England platform in ICF gave a speech as a representative. He took ICF as a golden
chance to show everybody the wonderful and rich culture at PKU. He thought highly
of volunteers‘ work for England platform. ―They expressed great passion and
coordinated cooperation with each other, made great contribution to the success of
our platform,‖ he said.
―ICF left me with a golden memory,‖ Liu Di, a volunteer from Arabic Department said
with excitement, ―Though the work sometimes made me very tired, I would wear a
big smile during the whole process because I really learned a lot. It is my great honor
