Dr. Liu Xiaoguang Named "Model for<br />

National Earthquake Relief"<br />

<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Oct. 13, 2008: It was published in the China Education Daily<br />

(October 10, 2008 issue) that Liu Xiaoguang, vice president and director physician <strong>of</strong><br />

the Third Hospital <strong>of</strong> <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, was named " Model for National Earthquake<br />

Relief " (in the education system) .<br />

Liu Xiaoguang received his medical degree from the Beijing Medical <strong>University</strong>, now<br />

the <strong>PKU</strong> Medical Department, in 1991, and received his doctorate in 2000. He had<br />

attended lectures organized by the International Spinal Foundation in Malaysia in<br />

March 2000, and went to France to attend seminars regarding European spinal<br />

surgeries in November 2001. He went on to study in Germany Scharwin Spine<br />

Surgery Center in April 2006 and then in the Cheung Kong Commercial College,<br />

where he received a degree in the Executive Development Programs (EDP).<br />

Dr. Liu has received support from the National Natural Science Foundation, Ministry<br />

<strong>of</strong> Science and Technology Foundation, "985" Spinal Research Foundation <strong>of</strong> <strong>PKU</strong><br />

for many <strong>of</strong> his research projects. He also participated in the projects <strong>of</strong> the Medicine<br />

Development Foundations <strong>of</strong> the Ministry <strong>of</strong> Health and the Ministry <strong>of</strong> Education and<br />

also the Capital Medical Developing Foundation. His thesis also won first prize from<br />

the Orthopedic Institute <strong>of</strong> the Chinese Medical Association, first prize in<br />

―Outstanding Papers Forum, <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>‖, and the first prize <strong>of</strong> the<br />

―Outstanding papers <strong>of</strong> the Chinese Journal <strong>of</strong> Orthopedics‖. He edited, wrote and<br />

translated four monographs, including "Spine Surgery", "Orthopedic Surgery ",<br />

"Lumbar Spine Surgery" and "minimally invasive intervention therapeutics".<br />
