Tibet and the politicization of the Beijing Olympics with the issue of Tibet or Human
Rights are strongly opposed. These are viewed as desecration of human civilization,
peace, friendship and harmony represented by the Olympic flame. Sports and
politics are totally separated, just as the International Olympic Committee President
Jacques Rogge put it: "the IOC is a sports organization, not a political organization. It
should not play a political role in solving global problems. The success of Olympic
Games depends on the performances of athletes, have no relationship with politics.
We love our great motherland, and we are convinced that holding a unique and
high-standard Olympic Games will be, under current circumstances of complexity,
the best embodiment of the spirit of patriotism, the best response to all acts of
sabotage and political boycott, and the best proof of the fact that the nation is full of
pride and self-confidence.
We strongly believe that any attempt to split the country or put China into chaos is
doomed to fail. Those who resist or disturb the Beijing Olympics will be ashamed
when history is made. The young generation, who mature and gain rational
patriotism in the prosperity of a reformed and opened up China, will be capable to
handle divergence and antagonism and won't oppose the politicization of Olympics
in a politicized way.
We firmly support the speech of President Hu Jintao in the Bo‘ao Forum For Asia
2008 Annual Conference that Beijing Olympics is the expectation of Chinese people
for a century, and, what is more, the anticipation of people all over the world.
Supported by people of all continents, China has the confidence and ability to get rid
of all kinds of interference, and make the Beijing Olympic Games a success.
The Beijing Olympic Games will begin in exactly 112 days. Over a thousand
volunteers from Peking University are devoting their hearts, wisdom and energy to
the Beijing National Stadium for the IAAF Race Walking Challenge. We are very
proud of them. To welcome the Olympic flame lit successfully in the National
Stadium will be a historic moment. Whether it is conducive to the success of the
unique and high-standard Olympic Games, and whether it is conducive to building a
harmonious world and developing human civilization will always be the criteria for the
PKU students to observe calmly, think carefully and judge rationally. We will
consciously maintain the stability of the campus and community, carry out by
themselves the Olympic purpose of "peace, friendship and progress" and the spirit of
volunteerism of "dedication, friendship, mutual aid, and progress", and welcome
athletes, officials and international friends with sincere smiles, display the
self-confidence, open minds and high spirits of China's youth.
We believe that with the party's strong leadership, the support from all peoples, and
help from friendly people all over the world, the Beijing Olympic Games will surely be
a great success. The Olympic flame will brilliantly shine out for peace and
