<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Beijing, Oct.23rd, 2006: The 3rd International Cultural Festival<br />
(ICF) Press Conference was held in the Centennial Hall on the afternoon <strong>of</strong> October<br />
19th. Assistant Principal <strong>of</strong> general affairs Lin Jianhua, Principal Assistant Li<br />
Yansong, Vice Director <strong>of</strong> the Publicity Department Sun Zhanlong, representatives <strong>of</strong><br />
overseas students from <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong> and media reporters were there to know<br />
more about the latest news <strong>of</strong> this great cultural event. Xia Hongwei, the assistant<br />
director <strong>of</strong> the general <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> International Cooperation Ministry, presided over the<br />
conference.<br />
In his speech, Executive Vice Principal Lin introduced to the press media the brief<br />
situation <strong>of</strong> international exchange and cooperation <strong>of</strong> <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong> in recent<br />
years. He highly recommended ICF and claimed that ICF was significant in bringing<br />
a more open atmosphere, broadening the horizons and global vision <strong>of</strong> <strong>Peking</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> students. Principal Assistant Li Yansong emphasized the main activities <strong>of</strong><br />
this year‘s ICF, especially the newly added items, for example, ‗Conversation<br />
between <strong>PKU</strong> students and foreign ambassadors in China‘, 1st Overseas Students<br />
Singing Competition and 1st International Culture Festival Evening Party. Two<br />
overseas student representatives, one from Japan and the other from Venezuela,<br />
both talked about their experience and expressed their feelings towards last year‘s<br />
ICF.<br />
The 3rd International Cultural Festival will be held on October 28th at <strong>Peking</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong>, when students from 65 countries and regions will gather at <strong>Peking</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> and share a joyful time. The theme <strong>of</strong> this year‘s ICF is ‗Broaden<br />
teenagers‘ international horizon, Together build a peaceful international<br />
environment‘. The slogan is ―Together Five continents share the joy at <strong>PKU</strong>,<br />
Together foreign and Chinese students sustain world peace‖.<br />
International Cultural Festival is one <strong>of</strong> the famous activities held at <strong>Peking</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong>. The success <strong>of</strong> the last 2 years‘ ICF has aroused attention from the<br />
colleges in both China and foreign countries, even from the communities. It becomes<br />
a platform for people to know more about <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong> and the world. It also<br />
becomes one <strong>of</strong> the annual major events in terms <strong>of</strong> international activities at <strong>Peking</strong><br />

Both Chinese and foreign students will show their own countries‘ natural and cultural heritage and the tourist spots that best symbolize their countries. The newly added item ―Food Square― Exhibition <strong>of</strong> Different Cuisines‖ spread the culture <strong>of</strong> different cuisines around the world. ―Voice <strong>of</strong> Joy‖ provides an opportunity for both Chinese and foreign students to show their ethnic characteristics to others. 40 Chinese famous painters are invited in the Chinese Drawing Exhibition to draw paintings. Besides, stamps and stamp booklets will be published to celebrate this grand event. Apart from the traditional activities held in previous ICFs, this year‘s ICF has some new elements. 1st <strong>PKU</strong> Overseas Students Singing Competition, as a preliminary activity, was held successfully on 14th October. Winners will perform on the day <strong>of</strong> ICF and will be awarded in the ICF Evening Party. The newly set ―Conversation between <strong>PKU</strong> students and foreign ambassadors in China‖ will be held in the morning <strong>of</strong> the day <strong>of</strong> ICF. Ambassadors and students will have conversations on 3 topics: Harmonious Campus, Harmonious World and characteristics <strong>of</strong> Internationalization in universities. Up till now, there have been 25 foreign ambassadors promising to participate in this event. Moreover, 1st ICF Evening Party will be held in the evening <strong>of</strong> the day. Furthermore, this year‘s ICF will be held at the same time with the Beijing Forum. This emphasizes the notion <strong>of</strong> <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>: ―Developing a world-class academic forum, Building a harmonious campus‖. Beijing Forum, as a grand international academic event, will add in more meanings to ICF. Best <strong>of</strong> all, some <strong>of</strong> the representatives in Beijing Forum will also participate in ICF and attend the Evening Party. Of course ICF will take this chance to show the best side <strong>of</strong> <strong>PKU</strong> students to the world. At the same time, based on last year‘s intra-school live show, this year‘s ICF will give a live show on the Internet facing the world.
