Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Meng Erdong Passed Away<br />

<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Beijing, Apr. 23rd, 2006: Meng Erdong, respectable pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong><br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Chinese Language & Literature, passed away yesterday morning in<br />

Beijing Tumor Hospital.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Meng Erdong was born in 1957 in Anhui Province. He was famous as a<br />

PhD advisor, academic elite in Department <strong>of</strong> Chinese Language & Literature. In<br />

early 2004, he participated in Teaching-Backing Program in Shihezi <strong>University</strong>,<br />

Sinkiang Uigur Autonomous Region, and fell on the platform due to his illness. He<br />

was later diagnosed as oesophagus malignancy, and yet he insisted on doing his<br />

research and instructing his graduates despite <strong>of</strong> three operations.<br />

President Hu Jintao thought highly <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Meng and took him as an excellent<br />

model <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essors; National Labor Union awarded him Wuyi Labor Medal; Ministry<br />

<strong>of</strong> Personnel and Ministry <strong>of</strong> Education entitled him as ―National Paradigm for<br />

Teachers;‖ and many universities have set Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Meng as example for teachers<br />

and pr<strong>of</strong>essors.<br />

Though every means had been taken to treat Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Meng and millions <strong>of</strong> prayers<br />

had been said, still he left. But his spirit will live on, forever, in our heart.<br />
