Unveiling Ceremony of the Asia-Pacific
World Heritage Research and Training
Center (Beijing) Held at PKU

Peking University, Beijing, May. 24th, 2007: On the morning of May 21st, the
unveiling ceremonies of the ―Asia-Pacific World Heritage Research and Training
Center‖ were held in Beijing, Shanghai and Suzhou at the same time, with interacted
via the video. The Assistant President of Peking University Li Yansong, the associate
dean of the Environment Institute Chen Yaohua, the secretary of the CPC committee
of the School of Archaeological Cultural Liu Xu and other deputies from relevant
faculties attended the inaugural meeting of Beijing Center at PKU.
After the video conference, Chen Yaohua emceed the meeting of the Beijing Center.
Assistant President Li Yansong gave a brief introduction of the background of
founding this center and he said it had a great importance for protecting the heritage
of China.
Liu Xu gave his own point on how to carry out the culture heritage protection work.
He believed that strengthening the awareness of the heritage protection among our
people was more significant than cultivating a group of outstanding professionals.
Asia-Pacific World Heritage Research and Training Center was one of the important
heritage research and training centers that established by the UNESCO in China.
With one center at Peking University of Beijing, one center in Tongji University in
Shanghai and one center in Suzhou, China National Committee of UNESCO and the
UNESCO will organize, coordinate, and promote the research, training, advice and
services of the world heritage in China and the third world of the Asia-Pacific region
countries commendably.
