<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, May 27, 2010: On the afternoon <strong>of</strong> May 20, Pr<strong>of</strong>. Sibrand<br />
Poppema, President <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Groningen (RUG), the Netherlands, visited<br />
<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong> Health Science Center (PUHSC). A conference attended by Pr<strong>of</strong>.<br />
Wang Xian, Vice President <strong>of</strong> PUHSC, presided by Pr<strong>of</strong>. Sun Qiudan, Director <strong>of</strong><br />
Office <strong>of</strong> International Cooperation at PUHSC, was held to welcome Pr<strong>of</strong>. Poppema<br />
and his delegation.<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>. Wang Xian gave the delegation a warm welcome before President Poppema<br />
introduced the conditions <strong>of</strong> education, research, and international relations in RUG.<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>. Sun Qiudan introduced the general state <strong>of</strong> affairs in PUHSC, and went on with<br />
further communication about international students and faculties‘ exchange,<br />
research cooperation between the two sides.<br />
An academic seminar was held after the welcoming ceremony as pr<strong>of</strong>essors <strong>of</strong><br />
Neuroscience, Generic Epidemiology, Pathology, Liver and Gastroenterology,<br />
Microbiology, Pediatrics from RUG visited corresponding laboratories respectively<br />
and communicated with experts in PUHSC. It was attended by Pr<strong>of</strong>. Li Lingsong,<br />
Director <strong>of</strong> Stem Cell Research Center PUHSC, Pr<strong>of</strong>. Wang Taiping, Executive Vice<br />
Director <strong>of</strong> PUHSC, Pr<strong>of</strong>. Wang Yuedan, Vice Dean <strong>of</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Immunology,<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>. Chen Xiangmei from Department <strong>of</strong> Microbiology, Pr<strong>of</strong>. Li Nan from<br />
Department <strong>of</strong> Respiratory Medicine, <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong> First Hospital, and Pr<strong>of</strong>.<br />
Zhong Xuhui from Department <strong>of</strong> Pediatrics, <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong> First Hospital.<br />
The visit from the delegation <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Groningen advanced the research<br />
communication, students‘ exchange, academic cooperation, and friendship between<br />
the two sides.<br />
The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Groningen (RUG), located in the city <strong>of</strong> Groningen, was founded in<br />
1614. It is the second oldest university in the Netherlands as well as one <strong>of</strong> its<br />
largest, world-famous for its excellence in researches. The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Groningen<br />
has nine faculties that <strong>of</strong>fer programs and courses in the fields <strong>of</strong> humanities, social<br />
sciences, law, economics and business, spatial sciences, life sciences, and natural<br />
sciences and technology.<br />
