Vice President: Bush Is an Old Friend<br />

The Great Hall <strong>of</strong> the People, Beijing, Nov 16th, 2005: Vice President Richard Ewing<br />

from Texas A&M <strong>University</strong> introduced Mr. Bush at the opening <strong>of</strong> the Beijing Forum<br />

before the former U.S. President addressed the audience.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>. Ewing spoke highly <strong>of</strong> President Bush‘s contribution to a fine Sino-U.S. relation<br />

when he was heading the Liaison Office to Beijing in 1975.<br />

―Mr. Bush is a respected U.S. President in China. He is an old friend <strong>of</strong> the Chinese<br />

people.‖ Mr. Ewing said.<br />

―He was the President <strong>of</strong> the U.S. when the world was enduring dramatic changes:<br />

the ending <strong>of</strong> the cold war, the collapse the Soviet Union, the fall <strong>of</strong> the Bolin Wall<br />

and the changes in the Eastern Europe.‖ Pr<strong>of</strong>. Ewing said.<br />

―We are proud because we have the Bush Library in TAMU and we have been<br />

carrying on the fine tradition <strong>of</strong> serving the public as exemplified by President Bush.‖<br />
