There are so many universities and science workers in China, but we know well to
what extent they have contributed to the country and to what extent their findings are
internationally influential. Therefore, one of the many questions that confront
Chinese universities is: Why should our innovation ability be this week? I think the
main reason is not that we have inadequate financial input or insufficient talents. Our
financial input, though indeed not abundant, could yield strong innovation ability in a
European country with the same amount; also, there are numerous professors,
doctoral supervisors, academicians as well as key laboratories in China. The root
problem is that our university culture is not an innovation-oriented one. Then what
kind of mainstream culture prevails in Chinese universities today?
kind of mainstream culture prevails in Chinese universities today? I will try to answer
this question after giving you some examples. Then finally, I will tell my readers what
innovation-oriented universities should be like and how we should build such an
innovation-oriented culture.
When talking about university culture, what remind most of us might be a word which
frequently hits the media: ―culture‖---Cultural Revolution, traditional culture,
