Student participation no doubt added extra polish to the active atmosphere of the
welcoming ceremony in addition to the hot weather. In front of the Centennial
Auditorium, there were students resting, preparing for the ceremony since this noon.
They gave excellent performance ranging from dancing, Wu Shu, wheel boarding to
Tai Ji Quan, a traditional Chinese Wu Shu.
Hundreds students are waiting for this moments for long. The logging population of
Triangle on Weiming BBS has exceeded 100 this afternoon, marking the unusual
attention the 2004 Olympic Flame Passing on Peking University has ever drown
among PKU students. Alone the passing route of the Olympic flame, there was a sea
of happy faces of the welcome students and triangle flags in their hands. Everybody
took proud in participating this welcoming ceremony in that they felt they were part of
the history this afternoon.
Sang Lan, once renown athlete but now a sophomore from School of Journalism and
Communication of Peking University, expressed her gratefulness and happiness in
being chosen to pass the torch: ―since my birthday is approaching, I will take this
experience as the best present for my birthday.‖
Sources say that taking the facts that the major urban transportation vehicle is
bicycle, the last part of the flame passing after it left Peking University will take the
form of passing by bicycles, showing unique feature of China.
The 2004 Olympic Flame arrived at Beijing early yesterday. As the host city of the
2008 Olympic, this Olympic Flame drew much public attention. Heavy media
coverage ranging from the Internet to printing media all focused on it.
Florian Kleefeld, a German student study European history at Peking University,
participated the welcoming ceremony alone with other excited students. ―I am so
amazed by so many people gathering here welcoming the flame. I think that is sort of
Olympic spirit: participation, right?‖ he smiled, ―since I have never watched Olympic
game, I am very eager to watch the Olympic game in China in 2008.‖
Mr. Andrew, the Prime News Officer of this global Olympic Passing, thought very
highly of the unusual passion of Beijing citizens: ―every minute as the torch touring
around this city, we see smiling faces. Their smiles are so sincere and we are so
much moved.‖
The Flame of 2004 Olympic Flame is heading for India after they leave Beijing,
China.
