grande umanità e dignità, ma densa al tempo stesso di artifici ed
effetti sul versante stilistico-retorico. Luzi traspone il testo inglese in
modo semplice sul piano lessicale, ma elaborato sul piano retorico,
complessivamente efficace in vista del risultato teatrale:
Sí, no; no, sí. Poiché il mio sí non vale nulla
e neppure il no; per questo te la cedo.
Attento ora a come disfarò me stesso.
Mi tolgo questo pesante carico dal capo,
questo scettro incomodo dalla mano,
l’orgoglio del potere sovrano dal cuore.
Lavo con le mie proprie lacrime l’olio della mia unzione.
Cedo con le mie proprie mani la mia corona.
Rinnego con la mia propria lingua il mio potere consacrato.
