Global information management is a management system like quality
and environmental management systems. As you would expect, global
information management systems are tied strongly to business models
and are of great strategic importance. As with any management system,
the desired outcome of global information management is to create
momentum for continuous improvement. However, in order to develop
and optimize the system, it is essential to have a detailed understanding
of the company’s background and current situation. Best practices available
for attaining this knowledge are limited and truly goal-oriented
tools are not well known, so how is it possible to optimize something if
the tools and methods do not exist.
Why is the Global Information Management system so important?
Management systems have differing levels of strategic importance and
vary considerably in the scope and depth of their influence throughout
the lifecycle of a product. In turn, the information supply chain becomes
more complex when a greater number of different resources are involved
in the value creation process, and when the value creation process
itself is interconnected on a more global scale. Companies that simply

will always be less than ideal.
