The SF-36 yields 8 scores, one for each scale (0-100 range: high scores equal high satisfaction in a single dimension), and two summary scores, derived from the other scales: “Physical Component Summary” and “Mental Component Summary”. Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS - Cox et al., 1987): 10 items, created to screen postnatal depressive symptoms and later validated in non-postnatal populations (Cox et al., 1996). The higher the total score (range: 0-30), the lower the mood. The original authors proposed a 12/13 cut-off value to detect major depressive symptoms, and a 9/10 cut-off value was suggested for routine use by primary care workers (Cox et al., 1987) and was used in the present study to identify risk for depression. State Trait Anxiety Inventory Form Y (STAI-Y - Spielberger, 1983): 40 items, divided in 2 subscales (score range: 20-80): State Anxiety (STAI- Y1), the level of anxiety at the present moment; Trait Anxiety (STAI-Y2), the usual level of anxiety in everyday life. The original authors (Spielberger, 1983) proposed a cut-off value of 40 to identify cases worthy of clinical attention, along with the following clinical cut-off values: 41-50: mild anxiety; 51-60: moderate anxiety; 61-80: severe anxiety. Statistical Analysis Analyses were performed with SPSS 18 for Microsoft Windows. To analyse demographic variables, One-Way and Two-Ways ANOVAs, Log-Linear analysis and Pearson’s Chi2 were performed. To study differences in the sample, One-Way and Two-Ways ANOVAs were per- 212 formed. To study the distribution of clinical cutoffs, both for EPDS and for STAIY, log-linear analyses were performed. Main comparison factors: “Gender” (Men vs. Women); “ART” (ART vs. non-ART). Results Sample Characteristics In the characteristics of the sample analysed in the present sample, the following significant differences emerge: mean age is generally higher for men than for women (M: 36,04±5,77; F: 33,86±4,63; p=0,001) and for ART couples than non-ART couples (ART: 37,66±4,81; non-ART: 33,13±4,89; p
