MARITAL SATISFACTION OF MOTHERS OF CHILDREN WITH ADHD

Objective: Children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity
disorder (ADHD) typically show considerable
problems with attention, activity level and
impulsivity. Studies suggest that there are frequent
difficulties in the families of children with
ADHD, because of their biological and self-regulatory
problems; children with ADHD often make
family relationships challenging. For this reason,
children with ADHD may create more family
stress.
There was more psychological impairment, as
well, among their parents. Parents, who have a
child with disability, have many problems in their
marital relationship because of their stress and
special responsibilities.
Also the stress of having a child with special
needs cause lots of marital problems between
parents. The present study was designed to
increase understanding of the impact of having a
child with ADHD on marital relationship of mothers
of these children.

Methods: 30 mothers who have a child with
ADHD and 30 mothers of normal children participated
in this study. We use Enrich marital inventory
to study marital relationship of mothers of
children with ADHD in comparison with mothers
of normal children. The results were analyzed
using variance analysis method.
Results: the results of this study showed that
mothers of children with ADHD show significant
differences in marital satisfaction, conflict resolution,
sexual relationship and children and parenting
scales with mothers of normal children
