FRIDAY, May 6 POSTER SESSIONS
Poster session 8 Taking care and follow up in cases of severe sickness
and mouring - severe disabilities
« But you dream too » : The place of the psyche
at a child with cerebral palsy Which place is it
tuned to the psychic care while is linked so much
medical and paramedical care? What place do
we grant to the word of the child? How to understand
its enjoyments, its fears, his desires, its
frustrations when it is deprived in its communications?
These questions, we settled them by
thinking of valentine 7-year-old girl in situation
of handicap.
Since the age of 6 months, Valentine stays in a
medical psychological center with children presenting
a serious chronic disease.
However, it is not her motor handicap which
managed this girl towards our service but her respiratory
problem. She requires continuous specific
care preventing a stay in a structure more
suited to her handicap. We took care of Valentine
by fitting us at best to her capacities of verbal
and not verbal expression. During long months,
her motionless body in her seating or thesis was
as a hiding screen her all intra-psychic and intellectual
life until the day when she said to us
by crying that she had had a nightmare. The expression
of its fantastical life, made us become
aware that we had especially centred the care
on the somatic to the detriment of the expression
of her psychic life. The implementation of a
psychotherapeutic work finally took place in the
whole of the care dispensed to Valentine. But it
was not simple! How adapt the working environment?
How let her express herself by means of
the media while she cannot manipulate without
assistant? How to bring to the foreground her
own thought while her word and her body movements
are so restricted? How to associate the
parents who after a long process of mourning of
a healthy child still carry always there attention
on the muscular functions? Know psychic life to
Valentine, with her desires, her refusals, her anger
underlies the risk of hearing the expression
of her suffering.
