Workshop 25 PMA, premature children and their development
The workshop dealt with premature birth and
its influence on the psychomotor development
of the child and the wellness of the whole
family.
After a brief introduction, Franco Baldoni presented
research data on attachment forerunners
and dyadic sensitivity in the family with a
preterm born child.
The results show in the preterm family that
40% of mothers and 75% of fathers are at high
psychological risk. In these parents, insecure
attachment forerunners, low dyadic sensitivity
and psychological difficulties (couple conflicts,

anxiety, depression) seem to influence the psychomotor
development of the preterm child.
The second talk by Elisa Facondini explored
the particular psychological condition of the
siblings of a preterm born child. The majority of
them present behavioural, psychological or
somatic difficulties (aggressive behaviors, preoccupied
attitude towards the mother, depressive
mood, sleep difficulties, school problems).
In conclusion, in the family with a child born
preterm the necessity to consider the needs of
all members of the family was highlighted, not
just the needs of the newborn.
