Air fluidized bed consisting of a rectangular tank that contains millions of tiny soda lime glass beads (microspheres). An air compressor
forces air up through the beads and a woven filter sheet. The beads' and filter sheet's resistance to the air flow creates an air dam which
suspends the patient and better spreads the pressure from the patient's weight across the patient's body. The bed also features a rubber
bumper guard around the tank, hand and foot operated fluidization switches, a fluidization control valve to regulate the pressure entering
the tank, a main control panel with shut-off and alarm heating and cooling circuits and a digital temperature display. Used for patients
who have spinal cord injuries, burns, skin grafts or open fractures. Due to the intensive service requirements for this bed, it is usually a
leased (rather than purchased) piece of equipment.
