Continuous analgesia pump. Also known as a PCA or patient controlled analgesia pump. <strong>The</strong> unit provides a controlled, continuous or as<br />

required (PRN) dose of analgesia medications for postoperative patients. <strong>The</strong> patient can control administration of the prescribed drug up<br />

to a preset rate. <strong>The</strong> unit can be mounted to an IV pole and/or be small enough to be carried in a pouch. Use of this device speeds<br />

patient ambulation and reduces the length of hospital stays. Depending on the manufacturer, electrical requirements refer to either the<br />

unit itself or the battery recharging unit.<br />
