Mrs Beeton, Isabella Mary Beeton, née Mayson<br />

1836–65<br />

Mrs Beeton’s title as Editor concealed the elements <strong>of</strong> her own writing in <strong>The</strong><br />

book <strong>of</strong> household mangagement. During her lifetime several new edns<br />

and derivatives <strong>of</strong> the book were pbd by her husband, Samuel Orchart Beeton.<br />

After her death he sold his publishing house and titles to Ward, Lock and Tyler<br />

(later Ward and Lock) who produced a large number <strong>of</strong> such works, all carrying<br />

her name but with revised or abbreviated contents and sometimes new titles.<br />

Numbers in brackets indicate probable minimum number <strong>of</strong> reissues.<br />
