Rudyard Kipling 1865–1936
As a result of gifts and bequests, Kipling’s mss are now widely located; major
collections are to be found as follows: BL: mss, limited and rare edns of Kipling’s
books, autograph notes, poems, photographs, vols from Kipling’s mother’s and
father’s libs, pirated edns and trns into foreign languages – 1,200 vols in all (see
BM Quart 14 1940; Index of mss in the BL, Cambridge 1984–6). The
Kipling papers, Univ of Sussex Lib: business and legal papers, correspondence
( family and other correspondents), literary mss, press-cuttings, papers of
Kipling’s children, papers of Kipling’s father (letters, drawings, press-cuttings)
(see Kipling Jnl Mar 1983). Dalhousie Univ Lib: 1,200 first edns and associated
copies, 300 vols of Kiplingiana, bibliographies and biographies, 200
Kipling items in trn, copyright printings, periodical collection (including files
