Apart from being a prolific composer, Parry also wrote the books <strong>of</strong> words for<br />

numerous musical compositions, such as Job: an oratorio [1893] and War<br />

and peace: a symphonic ode [1905], and he edited several musical works<br />

such as Arion: a collection <strong>of</strong> madrigals, glees, part-songs etc. by<br />

ancient composers, 2 vols [1895?–7?] (with L. S. Benson and W. B. Squire).<br />

Contributions to periodicals and collaborative works<br />

Parry wrote an article on Purcell for Nat Rev. See Wellesley vol 5. He edited,<br />

together with J. Staines, the series <strong>of</strong> Novello, Ewer & Co’s Music Primers<br />

[1877 etc], and he contributed articles to Grove’s Dictionary <strong>of</strong> music and<br />
