<strong>The</strong> three main sources <strong>of</strong> material are the Beinecke Library at Yale, which<br />

contains much family correspondence, the letters to Bertz and miscellaneous<br />

correspondents and mss <strong>of</strong> poems and short stories, and <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong> town traveller;<br />

the Berg Collection NYPL, which also holds much family correspondence<br />

and letters to many minor correspondents and mss <strong>of</strong> short stories and <strong>of</strong><br />

Demos, <strong>The</strong> emancipated, New Grub Street and Will Warburton; the<br />

Lilly Library, Indiana University, which has acquired the material formerly<br />

held by the Carl H. Pforzheimer Library, that is numerous letters, including<br />

the most significant ones to literary agents, and mss <strong>of</strong> early work in verse and<br />

prose and <strong>of</strong> Isabel Clarendon, Charles Dickens: a critical study, By the<br />

Ionian sea, <strong>The</strong> private papers <strong>of</strong> Henry Ryecr<strong>of</strong>t (first version) and<br />

Veranilda. Other important collections are in the Huntington, which possesses<br />
