Collections<br />

During Dickens’s lifetime and the duration <strong>of</strong> the chief copyrights, the only<br />

authorised collected edns issued in England were pbd by Chapman & Hall.<br />

<strong>The</strong>se edns were expanded from time to time, and in due course furnished with<br />

introductory or critical matter. After Dickens’s death, similarly annotated<br />

edns were issued by other firms, and new artists were procured for the illustrations;<br />

only the more important <strong>of</strong> these edns are given here. <strong>The</strong> authorised<br />

edns are not all included because some varied merely in title, price and other<br />

technical details. Reprints not containing new material are omitted.<br />
