Numerous juvenile annuals were issued from 1860 onwards as an integral<br />

part <strong>of</strong> juvenile magazines. Thus Boys own annual and Girls own annual<br />

are the issues <strong>of</strong> each paper for the whole year put up in cloth bindings. Other<br />

magazines issued an extra number at Christmas which is described as<br />

annual, sometimes under a totally different title. Frequently, however, the<br />

annuals <strong>of</strong> this period are enlarged or double numbers <strong>of</strong> the December issue in<br />

an elaborately coloured cover.<br />

<strong>The</strong> annual register: or a view <strong>of</strong> the history, politicks and literature<br />

<strong>of</strong> the year 1758 onwards. In 1790 the stock and copyright were<br />

sold: the first was bought by Otridge and the second by<br />

Rivington; each party issued a distinct continuation. Rivington’s<br />

ran from 1791 to 1800, new series 1801 to 1827. General index<br />
