<strong>The</strong> city <strong>of</strong> dreadful night, prose ‘phantasies’, trns from Heine and<br />

Leopardi, notebooks, diaries in London, Colorado and the Basque Country,<br />

letters by and to him, other writings and memoranda. <strong>The</strong> Pierpont Morgan<br />

Lib, New York, has a complete (but for one verse) ms <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong> city <strong>of</strong> dreadful<br />

night as brought to America by G. W. Flaws after Thomson’s death. <strong>The</strong> BL<br />

contains early drafts for 15 <strong>of</strong> the 22 sections <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong> city <strong>of</strong> dreadful night,<br />

with corrected pro<strong>of</strong>s <strong>of</strong> Sunday up the river, and 3 notebooks containing<br />

Weddah and Om-el-Bonain, In the room and verse and prose fragments.<br />

A holograph <strong>of</strong> the Six sonnets to Joseph and Alice Barnes is in the<br />

Bradlaugh Collection at the Bishopsgate Inst. <strong>The</strong> Alderman Lib, Univ <strong>of</strong><br />

Virginia, holds 2 letters to George Eliot and a letter to the editor <strong>of</strong> Acad. Four<br />

letters to Philip Bourke Marston are in the Louise Chandler Moulton Papers<br />

at the Lib <strong>of</strong> Congress. <strong>The</strong> run <strong>of</strong> Cope’s Tobacco Plant held by Glasgow<br />

Univ Lib has corrections to Thomson articles apparently in Thomson’s hand<br />

(N & Q 228, Aug 1983).<br />
