Remembrance in Time
The first was the "subversive" organization entitled "Vlad łepeş II". It was signalled it
pre-eminently unfolded its activity in the central-Southern part of Bihor and in the North
of the county of Arad. Its chief was the advocate Constantin Militaru from Oradea 3 . The
components of the organization were mostly State-apparatus clerks, unlocked officers,
pupils, workers; and in the villages, especially the intellectuals of the local communities.
Its ramifications comprised, beside Oradea, also the villages Vaşcău, PăŃal, Beliu, Ucuriş,
Lunca, Câmpanii de Sus, Leheceni, Beiuş, Marghita and Sălard.
The second anti-Communist resistance organization was signalled in the area of the
mountains Codru-Moma and Bihor 4 . The principal connection and supply centres were
the villages Susag, Craiova - today Craiva – from the county of Arad, Ucuriş and
DumbrăviŃa de Codru from Bihor. The groups consisted, according to the Security’s
reports, in political men – especially legionaries – who hid in the mountains, unlocked
officers and intellectuals originating in the localities neighbouring the mountain. From
here, they bobbed the village world in hopes of a revolt.
The third resistance group acted in the area Vaşcău - Cărpinet and in the mountains
Bihorului, being led by captain Ştefan Popescu. Former officer of the Romanian army, he
gathered around him a series of inhabitants, who gave much trouble to the regime in the
interval 1947-1950. Leading advocate of the National Peasant Party, Ştefan Popescu
constituted an anti-communist group, who clandestinely acted, benefiting from real
support from the local population 5 .
Finally, the fourth resistance group was called Organization Independent Romania and
was among the most active in Bihor during 1947-1950. It certainly came into being
sometime in late 1947, so that, in the spring of 1948, its existence should be precisely
signalled by the Security as centred in Oradea. Its first head was Nistor Bădiceanu. The
first nucleus of this organization consisted in circa 20 youths, around 20 years old 6 . From
the very beginning, it had ramifications throughout the county of Bihor, but also in the
West of the county of Sălaj and in the city Satu Mare. Among its members, there are:

Bihor), Rus Vasile, from Abram (county of Bihor), Cuc Aurel, from Hidişelul de Sus
(county of Bihor), Coroiu Tănase, from Vaşcău, Mut Marius, from Satu Mare, Furtos
Flaviu, from Sărsig (county of Bihor), Broşteanu Aurel, from Sărsig (county of Bihor),
Ştreng Traian, from Sărsig (county of Bihor), Budaru Leontin, from AbrămuŃ (county of
Bihor), Abrudan Lazăr, from MarŃihaz (county of Bihor), Costin Iosif, from AbrămuŃ
