Remembrance in Time
The No. 1 justificatory committee made decisions in 865 locals’ case. 761 persons were
justified and against 104 persons started legal proceedings, and 17 cases were passed on
to the Szeged local board.
12 % of the cases ended with a verdict of guilty and the primary reasons were as follows:
- the person concerned was the member of the Volksbund/ the Arrow Cross Party /
Turul Fellowship Alliance made an anti-communist statement (in the majority of
the cases the witnesses had personal conflict with the suspect)
- or he participated in anti-Jewish activities (in theory or truly).
It is interesting that in the cases were the Turul Felloship Alliance was concerned the
suspects were reprimanded or they were defined as unable to fulfill leading positions
while in more subjective cases, for example making anti-communist statements the
punishments were stricter.
