Remembrance in Time
Sándor Papp (20th January 1907) – he was a doctor at Hungarian Railways and at
OTBÁ. In ’Népújság’, a local paper he declared on the 3rd of October in 1942. in an
article titled ’Old memories tempt’ that he considers himself as a right wing politician.
In his law-case ont he 9th of June in 1945 he referred to the fact in vein that there was a
mispresentation of his words by the journalist but the committee decided that it was not
necessary to hear the journalist in front of the committee.
The other accusation against Sándor Papp was that as a leading but not so significant
figure of the National Association of the Hungarian Doctors wrote a petition in the
question of restricting the Jewish doctors’ activities. The accusations concerning his right
wing thinking were justified by a private letter found in his file. According to his words
he pled the gentle line of the Turul.
His case was sent to the Szeged court and he was deprived of his job. The head of the
committee was Sándor Szenti and Imre Molnár during the two law-cases.
Imre Csáki worked at the tax office. He declared that: I was obliged (in written form) at
the time of the Jews’ deportation to take part together with the police officer, the
gendarmerie as the deputy of the city and as court reporter I had the task to register the
valuables arrested/confiscated by the police force and to give it to the forces and later I
had to be a local witness during the inventories.
Despite the fact the he was only doing his duty his case was cent to the Szeged court. In
this case the head of the committee was Imre Molnár.
Mrs. Béla Vajda, Rózsa Uzoni (28th August 1901) was the director of the Calvinist
Girls’s Secondary Grammar School here in Hódmezıvásárhely. The committee accused
him of having been the member of the Turul Fellowship Society. She denied the
accusations. Her confession was supported by one of her colleagues (Klára Gyırffy). The
other accusation against her based on an article published in the school journal with the
title „National education”. However she was not the author of the article she was accused
with having been responsible for publishing it as being the publisher and allowed this
article to be published. First this case was also sent to the Szeged committee but later this
decision was terminated and she was allowed to work in the public sphere but she was
found as unable to serve as a leading figure and for this reason she was excluded from
advancement for five years.
Imre Molnár was the head of the committee.
László Kádár (Hmv.,1910.11.29.) he was the bible class teacher of the Calvinist Girls’s
Secondary Grammar School. He was accused because of an article published in the
school journal with the title „National education”. He wrote in his article about the
eastern block. In his law case he explained the subject of his article and he claimed that
he had not have the possibility for proof-reading. He justified his peace supporting and
anti-nazi ideas by giving a picture about his career. An interesting point in his case is that
Károly Keppinger, the head of the local Volksbund justified his confessions.
