Remembrance in Time
Those who opposed the forced incorporation among Romanian Orthodox were
imprisoned in jail, placed under the supervision of Security or kept under house arrest
regime [1], [5].
Our study does not aim to analyze subjective and biased situation and a historical
reality, only to find, to discover, through documents and oral history studies, the work of
a former catholic priest, Dr. Aurel LeluŃiu, originally from Fagaras area. Greek Catholic
priest, Dr. Aurel LeluŃiu was closed in jail because of the continued celebration of
religious worship was baptized and trained at major schools Blaj or Rome.
In over 20 years of democratic change around 1989, produced in the countries of
Central and Eastern Europe was asked the question, why did this iniquity, who belonged
to the idea of abolishing religion united, Romania, Ukraine, Czechoslovakia? !
This question was asked and the situation in our country. Were and are Romanian and
foreign researchers who answered this question by studies and research done by them.
We consider here the Andre Kom, a native of the Netherlands, which has a very objective
study on "Unifying United Church Romanian Orthodox Church in 1948." Another
research area has Volokitina Tatiana Russian researcher, and from us dealt with this area,
among others, Cristian Vasile, Amrius Bucur, Marius Oprea, Ovidiu Bozgan, Lucretia
Scurtu, Vasile Marcu and others.
Greek Catholic Priest Dr. Aurel LeluŃiu activity
During the seventh edition of International Symposium called „ Communist regimes -
recent memory for an open society ”, we have chosen to present the Priest. Prof. dr. Aurel
LeluŃiu for several reasons. First of all, the Priest and teacher Aurel LeluŃiu is a unique
personality who was totally committed to the spiritual life of the city and the nation. His
life was dedicated to the United Church and the Romanian people, and this simple fact
determined destiny, so he becomes a victim of Stalinist show trials being and processes
and then sentenced to several years in prison.
Another reason for this communication finds its explanation in the fact that the evoke of
Priest dr. Aurel LeluŃiu, my paternal uncle is a debt of honor to our family [2], [3].
Who was to become the Priest Aurel LeluŃiu, born on the 21 st of April 1914 in OlteŃ -
Făgăraş, was the fourth son of the family Alexandru and Maria LeluŃiu. His father died in
the First World War, therefore his uncle, Captain Alexandru LeluŃiu, took care of him
afterwards.
Thus, the young Aurel LeluŃiu, together with his brother John, under the care of his
uncle, Captain Alexander LeluŃiu , reaches the Orphanage in Sibiu, followed by the years
1928-1932 high school "Aurel Vlaicu" of Orăștie and high school "Gh Lazar "in Sibiu.
Having recently obtained the baccalaureate, in 1932, at 18 years old, he was sent to
Rome, where he studied for nine years, during the period 1932 to 1941. This fact is
proved by the document no.135 of 26.10.1932 the Romanian Kingdom Parish Office,
Viştea de Jos - Fagaras, signed by Father Nicholas Şandru.
Through this document young Aurel LeluŃiu was announced that, "in order
Reverendisimului James Popa, prepozit of Blaj, brought by Mr. A. sedge, reeve of
Dragus, was invited on October 28, 1932, to be present at Blaj to go to study at the
Institute of Propaganda Fide in Rome, accompanied by Rev. Dr. Augustine Tartar.”
