ABSTRACT
Seligman & Csikszentmihalyi published an article in 2000 in which they presented,
justified and declared the Positive Psychology movement. This new branch of contemporary
Psychology – that can be defined as the scientific study of positive human emotions, forces
and virtues (Bacon, 2005; Seligman & Csikszentmihalyi, 2000; Sheldon & King, 2001) – is
essentially focused on positive subjective experience. As its main objective, it presents the
promotion of change in Psychology- from the traditional concern only focused in damage
repairing and suffering relief, into something that is also focused in preventing diseases
related to the fine behavior of the Human Being and with the empowerment of his skills and
virtues; in other words, a concern in preventing damage to one’s psychological health and
besides trying to cure the disease, being able to nurture what best exists in each individual
by promoting the Well-Being (Seligman & Csikszentmihalyi, 2000).
This change in the Psychology paradigm leads us to consider the implications it might
have in several aspects and activities of the Human Being, in the sense of promoting
Happiness which, throughout the centuries and until today, has been considered as the final
objective of our existence.
