Contributions to the biography of the author of thebook <strong>Podul</strong> Mogosoaiei – <strong>Povestea</strong> <strong>unei</strong> strazi(Mogosoaia Bridge – The Story of a Street)The first edition of the book of Diplomat Gheorghe Crutescu was publishedduring the Second World War. A careful analysis of the book does not allow theestablishment of its publishing year. Certain text elements indicate the year 1943.Upon its re‐editing in 1986 I did not have Access to the personal file of diplomatGheorghe Crutescu. For the re‐editing of the year 2011 I had this possibility,having at my disposal for analysis the ‘Criminal record’ of the employee of theForeign Ministry kept in the archives of the Foreign Affair Ministry, revealingin 300 pages his activity in the interval 1918‐1947 in an exemplary ascendantevolution up to the quality of First Class plenipotentiary minister that he endedhis career with.His mission of the year 1943 in Denmark to represent Romania coincidedwith the enlargement of the German presence in that territory. There, based onthe accumulations from Romania, the passionate researcher of the historical pastof Bucharest and especially of the important traffic thoroughfare Calea Victoriei,evoked episodes from its evolving past. Gheorghe Crutescu reveals the fact thathe had performed a previous research, paying attention to older or newer writingsand at the same time to what was transmitted from one generation to another asthe saga of valuable families with contributions to a series of capital events. By theway in which he introduced this information in the writing laboratory meltingpot, he managed to evoke significant moments, people and facts, pointing outan agitated evolution that ensured the endurance, transformations in all fields ofactivity and human behavior.The incursion in this moment is interrupted in 1947 when, refusing tocome from Stockholm using the imposed route: Finland, U.S.S.R., Romania,he was considered resigned. His death year is considered to be 1950, withoutmentioning the cause, day, month, place of burial, the faith of his wife anddaughter.We hope that the edition of the year 2011 accompanied by the author’sbiography, explanatory notes will also bring to the foreground the multitudeof question marks that accompany the issue of the end of the life of thisillustrious predecessor and elucidate this way the really missing ones.
