PODUL MOGOŞOAIEI – POVESTEA UNEI STRĂZI ■ 17was paid in an expensive way by many of the people that felt that their dutywas to oppose the oppressors by any means. The events lived in those years are far from being able to be comparedwith the previous presences. Unfortunately, the pages of the ‘personal record’file from the Archives of the Ministry of External Affairs stop at the dismissalorder. What happened during the two following years of trips to WesternEurope is still an enigma that needs solving. Even the mention of 1950 as theyear of death, without mentioning the place, of the specific data generatesnumerous questions. He was probably one of the most ,,hunted” people bythe long hand of the people who, at the time, were preoccupied with theremoval of the uncomfortable people as they knew too much, which didnot in conformity with what was offered to the public for knowledge whichshould correspond with the ensemble of the Stalinist ideology. On the dateof his death (1950), his child Sanda 54 was ten years old. The cautious father,to protect her in the conditions created in the entire Europe, took steps for,,sheltering” her in Switzerland, leaving her to be brought up by good people. We hope that the mother as well as the daughter found out about the endof Gheorghe Crutzescu’s life. Years and decades passed, structural changesintervened which, naturally, should also bring clarifications in the case of thedeath of this diplomat. In 1986, when I undertook, on behalf of the Editurii publishing house, the mission to re‐publish his book, I considered it was natural to carry outa draft of the author’s bio. Consequently, I tried to get information to fillin the personal fiche of the diplomat Gheorghe Crutzescu I knew from thedetails 55 in the Diplomatic Yearbook 1942. Politely, I wasn’t refused, but weended up talking about the weather. When, in the spring of 2010, I had theopportunity 56 to research the M.A.E. Archives for the pages of the ‘Report’file, I understood why the respective interlocutors in 1986 couldn’t speakabout the final years from the life of this diplomat. He was an outcast,‘condemned to being completely ignored’ for failing to comply with theorders imposed by the liberating occupiers. Now, more than six decadeslater, it is time that all steps should allow the truth to be known. GheorgheCrutzescu had a prestigious diplomatic career carried out with a faultlessguidance, carrying out exemplary the missions he received. I believe thatthe best characterization is the one formulated 57 by the former minister, dr.Emil Haţieganu, left in Cluj in order to be the defender of the Romanianspresent in the territory ‘given’ in 1940. On the 25 th of March 1941, he sentto M.A.S. a thank you letter for the support awarded to the Romanians in theterritory taken by the Hortists in the harsh situations generated after the 30 thof August 1940 by the Romanian diplomat Gheorghe Crutzescu who was ina mission in Budapest 58 .
