ABSTRACT
This research has as its principal objective the analysis of the death and the dying in Ribeirao Preto
during the period of functioning of the first three cemeteries of the city which were administered by the
Church, between 1867 and 1893. Through the research of ecclesiastical sources (Parochial Books of
Deaths) and other documents it lists the registers of the burials, that were carried out in that period.
After a quantitative and qualitative study of the deaths, of the principal causae mortis, it emerges the
profile of the dead and other important information concerning the cemeteries and the transformation of
the funerals in the first decades of the existence of the city of Ribeirao Preto.
