quelqu'un et une fin quelconque (Cox, 1996 : 87). li différencie ainsi deux catégories
de théories: les problem-solving theories et les théories critiques. Si les premières
prennent l'ordre politique et social comme il est, les théories critiques misent sur un
choix normatif pour un autre ordre social et politique, ce qui implique une part
d'utopisme pour une représentation cohérente d'un ordre alternatif. C'est donc la
question de l'action politique par la critique théorique et au-delà, dans la praxis
politique, qui est mise en relief par Cox. C'est là que les théories critiques diffèrent le
plus des problem-solving theories: « In this way critical theory can be a guide to
strategie action for bringing about an alternative order, whereas problem-solving theory
is a guide to tactical actions which, intended or unintended, sustain the existing order »
(Cox, 1996: 90). Ultimement, notre étude géopolitique/astropolitique critique aspire à
ouvrir la voie à un traité d'interdiction des armes spatiales et, surtout, à intervenir pour
contrer le projet américain de guerre spatiale.
1.3 La critique éthico-politique
L'action politique poststructuraliste passe par la critique politique (dans laquelle
l'entreprise de théorisation fait partie du politique). La considération éthique est ainsi
centrale dans le travail intellectuel des poststructuralistes :
[I]ts contribution is not to simply advocate one fixed position. This is not because it is incapable of
endorsing or suggesting particular decisions in specifie circumstances that should be pursued. Rather,
an argument of this kind embodies an ethos that considers critique to be a form of intervention,
carrying with it particular assumptions into an already established political formation in order to try
open the space for altematives }} (Campbell, 1998 : 227).
C'est pourquoi il faut montrer, dans une perspective poststructuraliste, comment un
discours réaliste cherche à construire et à forger un monde particulier:
For the prevailing view, the one that informs contemporary strategie studies, is that military strategy
is about a real world that has an existence "out there" to which responsible leaders must fashion
response. From this standpoint, to interpret strategy as a textual production is to deny the objective
integrity of the enterprise. [...] [S]uch conventional wisdom is based upon a theory of language that is
unreflective in its epistemological commitments. For language does not correspond to an extemal
world of referents; rather, language constitutes, produces, and reproduces its own system of referents.
Strategie language as weil creates that to which it purports to be responding (Klein, 1989 : 99-100).
L'important est de «ask interesting questions that speak and listen to ongoing social
and political struggles. In this sense, the task of social science is to give voice and
