New Brunswick<br />
The New Brunswick helmet law came into effect in 1995. It applies to all ages.<br />
1995 – Ontario The Ontario helmet law came into effect from 1st October 1995. Although originally intended to apply to all ages, it<br />
was amended by regulation before enactment to exempt adults (18 years of age and over). Information about the<br />

The British Columbia helmet law came into effect from September 1996. It applies to all ages. Exemptions apply to<br />

1997 –<br />
The Nova Scotia helmet law came into effect from July 1997 and was enforced from 1st September 1997. It covers<br />
Nova Scotia cyclists of all ages. On 12 January 2007, the law was extended to include skateboarders and in-line skaters and to<br />

2002 – Alberta The Alberta helmet law came into effect from 1st May 2002. It applies to cyclists under 18 years of age and includes<br />

2003 – Prince The Prince Edward Island helmet law came into effect from 5 July 2003. It applies to bicyclists and their passengers of<br />

Kroatien 2008 Under 16 years of age only1<br />
Dänemark Kein Velohelmobligatorium. The Copenhagen Post reported in November, 2009 that a failed attempt to pass a Danish<br />
law requiring helmets for those under 12 was being revived after evidence surfaced that the proportion of Danish<br />
cyclists arriving at emergency rooms with head injuries was declining as helmet use there has increased to about one<br />
in six cyclists.<br />

Frankreich Kein Velohelmobligatorium. France has a lively discussion on helmets going on. The best summary is probably this<br />
page on the Mieux se Déplacer à Bicyclette site. They analyze deaths in Paris and in France as a whole and conclude<br />

Island 1999 Iceland introduced a helmet law for children under 15 years old in 1999. At the same time powers were granted to<br />

Israel 2007 In July 2007, the Israeli Knesset passed a law making it compulsory for all bicyclists to wear helmets. Originally the law<br />
was intended to cover only children and teenagers, but adults were included as role models. A fine between NIS 200<br />
and NIS 250 was proposed, but had not been set by October 2007 so the law could not be enforced. Information<br />
