He started shooting Super-8 shorts at age twenty.<br />

Most <strong>of</strong> the pr<strong>of</strong>essional documentaries he directed<br />

are linked to fi lmed diaries and home movies. In 1992,<br />

he created his own production company, Libre Cours.<br />

Since 1999, he has taught documentary directing at<br />

the University <strong>of</strong> Paris VIII.<br />

A fi lm actress from 1913 (Fleur fânée . . . Coeur aimé, René<br />

Le Somptier), she played in a few fi lms but worked with<br />

some <strong>of</strong> the best directors <strong>of</strong> her time: Jacques Feyder<br />

(1921 L’Atlantide / USA: Lost Atlantis / Missing Husbands),<br />

Henri Fescourt (1924 Le Gardien du Feu), and Jean<br />

Renoir (1927 Marquitta, in the title role). Marquitta allowed<br />

her to start a second career as a producer for<br />

the company Les Artistes Réunis (1927 Chantage, Henri<br />

Debain, also art director). She died at age thirty-nine<br />

after directing two feature fi lms. She was married to<br />

actors Pierre Renoir and André Roanne.<br />

ISNARD, ARMAND (August 1, 1939, Montmorency,<br />

Val-d’Oise, France–)<br />

From 1957 to 1970, he was a chansonnier and appeared<br />

in cabarets and on humoristic TV shows. The<br />

author <strong>of</strong> about 400 sketches for comedian Fernand<br />

Raynaud, he was also a writer, publisher (in the<br />

1990s), and occasional fi lm (1974 Gross Paris, Gilles<br />

Grangier) and TV actor (1973 Les Ecrivains, Robert<br />

Guez; 1974 L’Accusée, 20 13', Pierre Goutas; 1975<br />

Les Pilotes de Courses, 26 13', Robert Guez; 1976 Le<br />

Milliardaire, Robert Guez). His only feature fi lm was<br />

a lowbrow comedy. From 1996, he shot more than<br />

sixty documentaries.<br />
