Having graduated from the Institute <strong>of</strong> Political Sciences<br />

<strong>of</strong> Paris in 1978 and receiving a diploma in<br />

contemporary history, he is a novelist published by<br />

After studying at the Beaux-Arts, he took acting<br />

courses with René Simon. From 1946 (Antoine et Antoinette<br />

/ UK and USA: Antoine and Antoinette, Jacques<br />

Becker) to 1988 (La Vie et rien d’autre / UK and USA:<br />

Life and Nothing But, Betrand Tavernier), he played in<br />

about twenty movies. His only fi lm effort, performed<br />

by actor friends <strong>of</strong> his, was poorly released. He was<br />

the <strong>French</strong> voice <strong>of</strong> several cartoon characters (Popeye,<br />

Daffy Duck). From 1947 to 1950, he was married<br />

to actress Capucine (1928–1990).<br />

In the early 1990s, he co-founded with some friends<br />

the ARTIS (Atelier de Recherche des Techniques de<br />

l’Image et du Son) in Aubenas. An assistant director<br />

and sound engineer (more than ten documentaries<br />

broadcast on Arte and France 3), he shot his fi rst<br />

documentary in 1994.<br />
