He grew up in the Alps. Having graduated with a<br />

master’s degree in letters dedicated to Nicholas<br />

Ray’s Johnny Guitar, he worked as a fi lm critic for La<br />

Revue du Cinéma, the Nouvelle Revue Française, and<br />

Les Etudes before being hired by Paul Vecchiali as an<br />

actor (1972 L’Etrangleur, Paul Vecchiali, shot in 1970;<br />

1974 Femmes, Femmes, Paul Vecchiali; 1977 La Machine,<br />

Paul Vecchiali; 1978 Le Théâtre des Matières, also<br />

set designer, Jean-Claude Biette; 1981 Loin de Manhattan,<br />

also set designer, Jean-Claude Biette; 1983 En<br />

haut des Marches, Paul Vecchiali) and assistant director<br />

(1975 Change pas de Main, Paul Vecchiali). Most <strong>of</strong> his<br />

fi lms were also produced by Paul Vecchiali. He died <strong>of</strong><br />

a cancer at age fi fty-six.<br />

He spent his childhood in Britain and studied law at<br />

Brest. Having graduated with a bachelor’s degree in<br />

international law, he enrolled in the Fémis (screenplay<br />

department). Then he began writing shorts with<br />

class friends Orso Miret and Jean-Paul Civeyrac. He<br />

authored a play from Dostoyevsky’s The Possessed<br />

(Les Somnambules) and a narrative adapted from the<br />

movie Haut les Coeurs! (Editions Solin / Actes Sud,<br />
