The son <strong>of</strong> singer Henri Salvador (1917–2008) and<br />

actress Jacqueline Porel (b. 1918), he was the legitimate<br />

son <strong>of</strong> actor François Périer (1919–2002), who raised<br />

him. He started as a photographer for such magazines<br />

as Paris-Match (1958), Télé 7 Jours (1960), and Salut<br />

les Copains (1962–1970) and was an occasional still<br />

photographer (1967 Bang-Bang / L’ammazzo o la sposo,<br />

Serge Piollet, France / Italy). He authored two autobiographies<br />

(2001 L’Enfant gâté, Editions XO; 2004 Le<br />

Temps d’apprendre à vivre, Editions XO), and his photographs<br />

were gathered in several books (1995 Mes Années<br />

60, Editions Filipacchi; 1999 Mes Années 60, tome<br />

2, Editions Filipacchi, 2000 Mes Années 60: L’intégrale,<br />

He gave up cinema in the early 1980s to resume his<br />

After completing his studies, he opted for a theatrical<br />

career, starting with André Antoine at the Théâtre<br />

Libre. Then the two men worked together at the<br />

Odéon. His performance with the great actress<br />

Réjane in Madame Sans-Gêne earned him huge success.<br />

Hired by Léon Gaumont in 1907, he played in<br />
