KAHANE, ROGER (September 20, 1932, Bois-<br />

Colombes, Hauts-de-Seine, France–)<br />

The son <strong>of</strong> a university pr<strong>of</strong>essor, he was fascinated<br />

with fi lms since his childhood and read all the movie<br />

magazines and reviews <strong>of</strong> the 1940s and 1950s from<br />

L’Ecran français to Les Cahiers du Cinéma. He spent a<br />

lot <strong>of</strong> his time in cine-clubs. Having graduated from<br />

the IDHEC, he began his career as an assistant director<br />

to Christian-Jaque (1955 Nana, France / Italy) and<br />

René Clair (Les Grandes Manoeuvres / Grandi manovre<br />

/ UK: Summer Manœuvres / USA: The Great Maneuver,<br />

France / Italy). A TV (since 1960) and fi lm (since<br />

1964) director, he also authored several plays he<br />

directed (Le Petit Chat est mort, Demandez la Chanson<br />

du <strong>Film</strong>, L’Epouvantail) and wrote books (1979 L’Affaire<br />

Peiper, co-written by Georges Arnaud, Atelier Marcel<br />

Jullian, Le Livre de Poche; Promenade, Mademoiselle,<br />

Club Zero; 2003 Le Petit Chat est mort, Editions La<br />

Femme Pressée). His credits as TV co-screenwriter<br />

include 1990 Les Cinq dernière Minutes (episode “Sang<br />

à l’Heure,” Nicole André); 1999 L’Instit’ (episode<br />

“Juliette et Roméo,” Chantal Picault); 2000 L’Instit’<br />

(episode “Ting Ting,” Pascale Dallet); 2001 L’Instit’ (episode<br />

“L’Ange des Vignes,” Antoine Lorenzi); 2002 Le<br />

Tuteur (episode “La Belle et la Bête,” Alain Schwartzstein);<br />

2005 Le Tuteur (episode “Il fera beau Demain,”<br />

José Pinheiro); 2006 Le Tuteur (episode “Le Pêcheur<br />

de Miracles,” François Velle).<br />
