The son <strong>of</strong> a missionary, he settled in France after<br />

the Algerian War. After completing his studies at<br />

the Conservatoire Libre du Cinéma Français, he<br />

rejoined his father in Gabon, where he restored and<br />

reedited movies and documentaries <strong>of</strong> the 1950s<br />

and 1960s. He shot several documentaries in Africa<br />

before returning in France and directing his fi rst<br />
