From 1982 to 1984, she was a freelance journalist<br />

for Le Point, then a reporter for the same weekly<br />

magazine (1986–1991). She wrote several episodes<br />

<strong>of</strong> TV series (1995 Hôtel de Police) and screenplays<br />

for cinema (1992 1492: Conquest <strong>of</strong> Paradise / 1492:<br />

Christophe Colomb / 1492: La conquista del Paraiso,<br />

also dialogist, co-producer, Ridley Scott, UK / France<br />

/ Spain; 1998 En plein Cœur / USA: In All Innocence,<br />

collaborated with such directors as Sydney Pollack<br />

and Oliver Stone (a biopic <strong>of</strong> Edgar Snow, a Maoist<br />

journalist), but the projects didn’t materialize.<br />

He was still a child when he started out his career in<br />

the music hall. As a circus artist, he showed a number<br />

<strong>of</strong> performing geese. In 1906, he was hired by Gaumont<br />

and made his fi lm debut as performer (La Course<br />

à la perruque / USA: The Wig Chase, short, Georges<br />

Hatot, André Heuzé) before turning actor-director<br />

(1906–1910). Then Pathé entrusted him the direction<br />

<strong>of</strong> its freshly created Nice branch, la Comica. Other<br />
