SAMUELL, YANN (June 7, 1965, Paris, France–)<br />

The son <strong>of</strong> actors, he followed his parents on the<br />

road, conducting theatrical tours, attending festivals,<br />

and even visiting Steven Spielberg’s sets. After studying<br />

at the CLCF (Conservatoire Libre du Cinéma<br />

français), he became an illustrator and painter for several<br />

<strong>French</strong> publishers (Hachette, Denoël, Excelsior,<br />

1985–1995). In 1993, he directed a play, Marivaux’s<br />

Le Legs. The same year, he made his directing debut.<br />

From 1990 to 2000, he worked as storyboard artist.<br />

He studied literature and philosophy at Clermont-<br />

Ferrand before moving to Medellín, Colombia, where<br />

he taught <strong>French</strong> at the Alliance française. Having<br />

returned to France, he enrolled in the Conservatoire<br />

Libre du Cinéma Français (editing department) and<br />

joined the crew <strong>of</strong> François Truffaut’s editor. He directed<br />

only two shorts and a feature fi lm.
